S&E: Peak Shifting Made Easy.
Installing an EquiVolt 15 kWh smart home battery storage system has never been more straightforward than our during our recent trip to the outskirts of Sheffield. S&E (full names withheld for privacy) were the ideal candidates: they had an excellent installation opportunity and met all the key requirements:
A consumer unit (fuse box) with a spare way
Suitable space in their garage (carefully cleared and ready for install day — thank you, S&E!)
An EV that allows them to access the best Time-Of-Use (T.O.U) tariffs
A functioning smart meter
Most critically — a high electricity bill driven by their electric underfloor heating
With careful planning and our team on site, the EquiVolt system was integrated quickly and safely. The entire installation took just a few hours, and in the first week of operation the system has saved them over £17 on their electricity bill. With continued optimised use and peak-shifting, they are on track to be save more than £500 a year!
Excellent space cleared ready for the installation, easily meeting the required 1.8m x 0.6m x 0.5m
Part way thorough the install, taking a coffee and cake break
Installation completed, G98 paperwork submitted, electrical installation certificate provided and all packaging/waste removed from site.
EquiVolt+ System Managment & Care:
The EquiVolt smart controller orchestrates all charging and discharging windows, continuously monitors the health of the entire system, and is designed for future participation in grid-balancing schemes. The EquiVolt controller operates over a reliable 4G LTE connection, enabling fast and independent commissioning of the system without requiring you to share any sensitive Wi‑Fi credentials. This also avoids complications if you later change Wi‑Fi passphrase or broadband provider.
The complete EquiVolt controller is self-contained and receives regular over-the-air updates to continuously optimise performance and maximise system lifespan. This is a product designed to improve over time, becoming increasingly capable and efficient as it evolves. The data gathered via the secure connection is processed by the proprietary EquiVolt “decision engine,” a piece of software that learns household usage patterns, optimises charge and discharge cycles, and actively extends battery life. Our comprehensive remote monitoring also enables potential battery issues to be identified and resolved quickly, preventing them from developing into safety concerns or premature failures.
In about three months’ time we will publish a follow-up blog post to review how the system has been performing and to share details of the “Savings Statements” issued as part of the EquiVolt+ subscription, so please stay tuned.
